I spent over 30 years working as an editor for provincial daily newspapers and for a corporate communications agency. I have been a self-employed copy-editor and proofreader since 2012.
In good hands
I am a professional member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading, and I abide by its code of practice.
Although I have been using my editing and proofreading knowledge since way back in the 1980s, I am a great believer in refreshing old skills and learning new ones. In 2020 alone, I have studied…
The Publishing Training Centre’s basic proofreading course (passed with a distinction)
The CIEP’s Web Editing course (certificate)
The CIEP’s Editing Digital Content course (certificate).

I have a number of specialisms I can offer non-fiction authors:
Photography and visual culture – I recently gained a first-class honours degree in photography
International development – I studied the subject at degree level
Social sciences – also studied at degree level
Sport – at different times during my career in journalism, I was sports editor of two provincial dailies, assistant editor of an American football paper, chief sports sub-editor and a football writer
Journalism – I have held several senior editorial positions at newspapers, including deputy editor and assistant editor. I have the proficiency test certificate of the National Council for the Training of Journalists
Spain – I have strong knowledge of the country, its history and culture.
I live in Cardiff Bay with my wife of 35 years. We have three grown-up children and three grandsons.
I am passionately interested in Spain and its culture, and I have been learning Spanish for several years. I chat to four different Spanish friends every week via the internet to practise my language skills (and enable them to practise their English). I am also keen on art, music, literature, archaeology and sport.
