Every job is different, so it is difficult to provide a one-size-fits-all tariff of charges, although I do offer a rough guide below, plus details of special deals for certain types of work.
For copy-editing and proofreading work, I need to know more facts and figures before quoting a price, including:
the service you need
details of the work
target audience
format (Word, Acrobat PDF etc)
word count
schedule.
It would also help to see a small sample of the text, so I can judge the complexity of the work.
However, guided by the suggested rates of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading, I usually charge businesses up to £25 per hour. This reflects the skill involved in carrying out the work thoroughly and accurately, and the amount of time I require. This fee is negotiable depending on the intervention needed, and I am happy to negotiate a single price for a piece of work, instead of an hourly rate.
Special deals
I offer a special rate for reading students’ theses, dissertations and essays of £15 per 1,000 words.
I also have special packages for website editing. They range from £85 for my Bronze package of five web pages to £215 for my Gold package of 15 pages. I charge £19 for an individual page. Take a look at the full details, including the wide range of services you get for your money.
